Book of Remembrance entry
B.E. : Private, 53rd Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st November, 1915, and sailing 14th April, 1916, with 12th Reinforcements 18th Battn., arrived in France via Egypt and England and joined 53rd Battn. on the Somme 20th September, remaining there till 6th June, 1917, when invalided to England. Returning to battn. in September, served at Polygon Wood, Messines sector and elsewhere till gassed at Wytschaete 21st March, 1918, and evacuated to No. 3 General Hospital, Le Treport. Rejoining unit in June, served at Morlancourt and Villers-Bretonneux till wounded again at Bellicourt 29th September and evacuated to hospital at Cardiff, returning to Australia 4th April, 1919.
