Econ. : Major, 5th Pioneers and 2nd Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France and England. Enlisting 8th August, 1914, with commission on 27th, and sailing 26th October with 2nd Battn., fought at Gallipoli from the Landing to the Evacuation, though wounded 9th May, 1915, and again on 8th August. Crossing to France with 5th Pioneers in June, 1916, served there till February, 1917, when transferred to Depot duty in England till July, 1918, returning 1st September. Mentioned in Despatches. South African War : Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). Indian Frontier : Four years, being personal escort in India to H.M. Habbibullah Khan, Amir of Afghanistan in 1907. Early education at Public School, Alyth, Scotland. Later at Army School, Ombala, N.W. Frontier, India, and Sydney Technical College.
