Book of Remembrance entry
B.E. : Major, 46th and 19th Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting in April, 1915, and sailing 25th June after being detailed to 20th Battn. from Officers Training School and then commissioned as lieutenant 19th Battn. 5th May., arrived at Anzac from Egypt 20th August and was invalided to Malta in September and thence to No. 3 London General Hospital, Wandsworth. Rejoining battn. at Moascar in March, 1916, transferred to 46th at Tel-el-Kebir, crossed to France early in June and served at Fleurbaix, Pozieres, Mouquet Farm, Vierstraat and Gueudecourt, attending Fourth Army School at Flixecourt from February to March, 1917. Was wounded and taken prisoner at Bullecourt, 14th April, 1917, repatriated to Leith, Scotland, 25th December, 1918, and, returning in May, 1919, was demobilised 17th July. Promoted captain, 8th October, 1915; major, 6th March, 1917. Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
