M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S. : Captain, R.A.M.C., B.E.F., France, Mesopotamia and England. Enlisting in London as second-lieutenant in May, 1915, crossed to France in July with 58th Field Ambulance and soon after was appointed M.O. 88th Field Artillery Brigade, north of Festubert, serving in Battle of Loos. In November transferred to Indian Expeditionary Force, just prior to its departure, as R.M.O. 2nd Leicesters (English units, 28th Indian Infantry Brigade) which, arriving in Mesopotamia too late to join General Townsend, formed nucleus of relief force. In February, 1916, joined 18th F.Amb. and a month later became M.O. 9th Field Artillery Brigade, until just prior to fall of Kut-el-Amara, when he returned, his time having expired. On the way back was admitted sick to Ras-el-Tin Orthopaedic Hospital, Alexandria, and, after sick leave in England, resigned commission, becoming in April, 1917, M.O., Royal Naval Hospital, Greenwich, till December, 1918, and returning to Australia in February, 1919.
