Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st March, 1916, and sailing in May, served at Nos. 1 and 2 Australian General Hospitals in France for short periods in September and as R.M.O. 33rd Battn. from 23rd till wounded at Flers 23rd November. Returning to No. 1 A.G.H., Rouen, 12th January, 1917, went to 5th Australian Field Ambulance 28th March, and was wounded at Bullecourt 26th April. On recovery joined 8th A.F.Amb. 3rd April, 1918, was R.M.O. 58th Battn. from 12th April, 1918, to 28th January, 1919, and served until demobilisation. Promoted major, 14th November, 1918. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College. * He worked at his aid post under heavy fire throughout two days' operations, and attended to the wounded of two divisions.
