M.M., B.A.; B.C.L. (Oxon.), Law II : Sergeant, 16th Battery, A.F.A., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 7th December, 1916, and sailing as senior-sergeant in 29th Reinforcements 5th November, 1917, crossed to France as a signaller and served there with battery until demobilisation. Awarded M.M. at Montbrehain, Hindenburg Line, in 1918. Rhodes Scholar, 1920. Wigram Allen Scholar and Pitt Cobbett Prizeman. Early education at Young and Manly Public and Sydney Church of England Grammar Schools. Later at St. Paul's College.
