Book of Remembrance entry
B.A., LL.B., Diploma in Military Science: Captain, 16th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli. Enlisting and sailing in December, 1914, served as Transport Officer, 16th Battn., at the Landing but, wishing to join the Firing Line, was permitted to land on 7th May. Was sent with about 40 of his own battn. and a platoon of 13th to charge a section of the Australian Line at Quinn's Post that had been occupied by the Turks, who were too strongly entrenched for such a small party. On the edge of the trench was shot, and died immediately after. Killed in Action, Quinn's Post, 10th May, 1915. Commemorated in Lone Pine Memorial. Member S.U. Scouts (Private, 1903; Captain, 1912). University Medallist (LL.B.). Clerk of Examinations, University of Sydney, 1910-13. Registrar, University of Western Australia, 1913-15. Early education at Sydney High School. By sheer determination, ability and hard work he had reached a good position, and he was quite willing to surrender it all for his country . . . His death is a glorious and fitting close to a brilliant career.
