Enlisting 6th June, 1916, and sailing 6th February, 1917, joined battn. in France and served at Ypres salient, Menin Road, Somme and Villers-Bretonneux, whence invalided to Norwich Hospital. Under A.I.F. Education Scheme attended course in cataloguing at Central Public Library, Portsmouth, prior to demobilisation. Early education at Thomas St. Wesleyan Methodist School, Douglas, Isle of Man.
