Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., B.Ec. : Captain, 49th and 9th Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 19th December, 1914, and sailing 8th April, 1915, as second-lieutenant with reinforcements, joined 9th Battn. at Anzac 26th May and remained there until the Evacuation. Transferring to 49th on 27th February, 1916, and crossing to France in June, was wounded at Pozieres 14th August and again at Voormezeele 13th October. In 1917 served at Messines and Polygon Wood, and in 1918 on the Somme, returning in January, 1920. Promoted lieutenant, 1st November, 1916; captain, 26th July, 1917. Awarded M.C. 3rd June, 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches twice. President, Evening Students' Association. Early education at Ipswich Grammar School.
