Percy wrote and published guides to the study of Shakespeare plays set for schools, and other books as aids to students of English and later French. He continued writing these books up until his death in 1966, which became widely used in schools as "crib" books.

Book of Remembrance entry
M.C., B.A. : Lieutenant, 24th and 3rd Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 9th May, 1915, and sailing in June, fought with 3rd Battn. at Gallipoli and, crossing to France, at Sailly, Fleurbaix, Pozieres and Ypres. Transferring to 24th in October, 1916, was invalided from Flers to England in December and, rejoining battn. in 1917, was at Ypres and Broodseinde until sent to Officers Training School at Cambridge, being commissioned in June, 1918. On return to unit, served at Hamel and elsewhere, following up German Retreat on the Somme, and until demobilisation. Awarded M.C.* and, Mentioned in Despatches. * This officer displayed conspicuous courage and skill during the operations at Mont St. Quentin on the 1st September, 1918. When the advance was held up by a hostile machine gun, he pushed forward, and, working to a flank in face of heavy shell and machine gun fire, rushed the post, killing four of the enemy and capturing the gun with three prisoners, thus enabling the advance to continue.
