Roberts, Harold Ashfield

B.E. : Major, 56th and 18th Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France and England. Enlisting 21st December, 1914, and sailing 25th June, 1915, as platoon commander 18th Battn., landed at Gallipoli 20th August, went into action the next day and remained with battn. till March, 1916, when transferred to command coy. in newly formed 56th Battn. in Egypt. Crossing with it to France in June, fought at Fromelles and the Somme till June, 1917, when placed on training staff, Salisbury Plain. Rejoining unit in January, 1918, served at Ypres till German Offensive on the Somme and then at Villers-Bretonneux, Hindenburg Line and elsewhere until demobilisation. Promoted major, May, 1918. Awarded Roumanian Order of Michael the Brave (3rd Class). Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
