Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., M.B. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, France and England. Enlisting 3rd November, 1915, and sailing 21st December on hospital ship Kanowna , joined A.A.M.C. Details in Egypt in January, 1916, and was R.M.O. 57th Battn. from March to October, crossing with it to France in June. Served with 14th Aust. Field Ambulance from November till invalided to hospital from the Somme in December and after six weeks was sent to No. 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield. Transferring to 16th A.F.Amb. in April, 1917, remained with it till its disbandment in October and then went to 1st Sanitary Section for twelve months, when posted to 7th A.F.Amb., being with it until demobilisation. Awarded M.C.* 29th June, 1916, and Mentioned in Despatches. * For several days he rendered first aid in the trenches under very heavy shell fire, and worked day and night till the wounded were finally evacuated.
