Patton, James Valentine

Book of Remembrance entry

M.A., B.Litt. (Oxon.), Diploma in Education: Chaplain, Royal Army Chaplains Dept., B.E.F., France, Salonika and Palestine. Enlisting in London in December, 1915, was gazetted Chaplain to the Forces (Class W) in January, 1916, and attached to 181st Infantry Brigade, Sutton Veny. Crossing to France in June, accompanied 60th London Division from the Somme to Salonika in December and proceeded via Alexandria to the Line between Gaza and Beersheba in June, 1917. Transferring 18th September as Chaplain, South Midland Brigade, Yeomanry Mounted Division (later 10th Cavalry Brigade, 4th C. Division), served throughout operations in Palestine, returning to Australia after demobilisation in England. Early education at Caulfield Grammar School. Later at Moore Theological College, and Wycliffe Hall (Oxford).
