Entered British Army, and was appointed Lieut. Royal Irish Fusiliers 2nd Btn. December 1905; to India March 1913, and gained captaincy there. On 13th February 1915, while leading a working party in the dark at St. Elois, near Ypres, he got too close to the enemy line, and was shot through the temple.
