He was chairman of the Farrer Memorial Trust (1940-59); a trustee of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney (1940-59), the Australian Museum (1946-76) and the McGarvie Smith Institute (1951-77); and a member (1933-66) of the New South Wales State committee of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization). Noble also sat on the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service’s Fauna Protection Panel (1949-59) and on the Sir Benjamin Fuller Scholarship and Taronga Zoological Park trusts. B.Sc.Agr.; M.Sc., Ph.D. (Minn.) : Warrant-Officer I, A.A.V.C., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 18th October, 1915, and sailing with 13th Reinforcements, 20th January, 1916, joined 1st Veterinary Section at Moascar, 30th March. Crossing to France, served continuously with 5th Division as sergeant from June, at Divisional H.Q., Small Arms Ammunition Section, D.A.C., and 53rd Battery A.F.A. In May, 1917, transferred to 5th Mobile Veterinary Section, being attached to 55th Battn., 5th D.A.C. and 5th Machine Gun Battn. On 20th January, 1919, was appointed to Instructional Staff, Agricultural Training Depot, Sutton Veny, serving until demobilisation. Promoted E.R. Staffsergeant and warrant-officer I, 1st June. University Medallist, Belmore Scholar and Maiden Prizeman. Early education at Sydney High School.
