M.M., Arts : Lieutenant, 41st Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting n th January, 1916, and sailing 16th August as pay sergeant, reverted to private on joining battn. in Armentieres sector 27th December. Served at Messines, Ypres, Morlancourt and the Somme, remaining with battn. until demobilisation. Promoted corporal, February, 1917, sergeant in July, and commissioned In the Field , November. Awarded M.M. in July, 1917. Early education at Sydney High School. Later at Teachers' College.
