Served at Messines, Ypres, Morlancourt and the Somme, remaining with battn. until demobilisation. Promoted corporal, February, 1917, sergeant in July, and commissioned In the Field , November. Awarded M.M. in July, 1917. Early education at Sydney High School. Later at Teachers' College.
