M.A. (Syd., Oxon., Camb.), LL.M. (Camb.) : Captain, 12th Battn. King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, B.E.F., France and Germany. Enlisting in England in 1916, was commissioned 28th March, 1917, and served as lieutenant with battn. until the Armistice, though gassed at Foret de Nieppe near Hazebrouck in 1918. Then was appointed Staff Captain (Civil Administration) 1st Division and 1st Infantry Brigade in the Army of Occupation near Bonn, returning to Australia in 1923. Mentioned in Despatches. A.M.F. : Captain, Army Legal Department ( regular appointment) since demobilisation. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
