Arts : Private, 8th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in April, 1916, and sailing in November, served with battn. in France from April, 1917, at the Somme, Ypres, Bullecourt, Polygon Wood and elsewhere until demobilisation though twice temporarily invalided. Was for a time acting sergeant and engaged on non-military employment in England while awaiting demobilisation. Early education at Upper Lansdowne Public School. Later at Teachers' College.
