A.R.S.M., Eng. I ll : Captain, 2nd, 1st and 3rd Field Coys., Engineers, A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 12th August, 1914, and sailing as second-corporal 1st Field Coy., was selected with 19 other engineers to accompany naval detachment bombarding Dardanelles Forts. Returning to Egypt, was at Gallipoli from the Landing till 18th November, 1915, being transferred to 3rd Coy. on 26th August. Crossing to France in March, served with coy. till May, 1917, when transferred to 2nd, remaining there till May, 1918, when severely wounded at Borre, while acting as major, and evacuated to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth. Demobilised in U.K. Promoted corporal, May, sergeant, 12th August, second-lieutenant, 26th August, and lieutenant, 18th November, 1915; captain, May, 1917. Mentioned in Despatches thrice. Early education at Melbourne Church of England Grammar School.
