B.A., LL.B. : Major, 56th Battn. A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and France. Enlisting in March, 1915, and sailing 12th May as lieutenant, 17th Battn., spent four months at Gallipoli and commanded the rearguard at the Evacuation. Fought on Suez Canal Defences and Sinai Peninsula, transferred in Egypt to 56th Battn. on formation and crossed to France in July, 1916. Served at Fleurbaix, Flers, Passchendaele, Messines Ridge, Villers-Bretonneux and until demobilisation, though gassed at Villers-Bretonneux 17th April, 1918, wounded there 15th May and again at Barleux in August. Promoted temporary captain, 8th October, 1915; captain, 1st April, 1916; major, 1st April, 1917. Mentioned in Despatches and specially commended for trench raids. A.M.F. : Commission in Scottish Rifles (25th Battn.). Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
