M.C., Med. : Major, 1st and 2nd Battns., Irish Guards, B.E.F., France. Enlisting in England at the outbreak of War, was appointed from Canadian Forces as captain and posted to the Irish Guards, Special Reserve, 10th November, 1914, and, crossing to France, joined 1st Battn. at Richsbourg St. Vaast, n th January, 1915, and was wounded at Cuinchy 1st February. Rejoining battn. on recovery, became O.C. 4th Coy. and was wounded again at Ginchy 15th September, 1916. On recovery served for a time at the War. Office but, crossing again to France, became for a short time O.C. 2nd Battn. from 27th March, 1918, and remained with Guards until demobilised 5th August, 1920. Promoted major, 16th September, 1916. Awarded M.C. for work at Ginchy and Mentioned in Despatches. R.A.A., 1901-06; Canadian Military Forces, Ordnance Corps, 1906-11. Early education at Temple Grove and Eton.
