J L M Kneebone was an outstanding student both at school and later at Adelaide University. He won the Young Exhibition award while in his final year at St. Peter's College and the Da Costa University of Adelaide scholarship.
He obtained his FRCS between 1919 and 1921. He did his training in surgery at the London Hospital.
