B.A., Law II : Captain, 35th Battn., A.I.F., France; also Indian Army. Enlisting 25th August, 1915, and sailing with battn. 1st May, 1916, as second-lieutenant, arrived at Armentieres in November and fought at Messines and elsewhere. Joining the Indian Army (i/9th Gurkha Rifles) 31st January, 1918, as lieutenant, served until demobilisation, then returning to Australia. Promoted lieutenant, 1st August, 1916; captain, A.I.F., 21st July, 1917; captain, Indian Army, 3rd August, 1919. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College.
