While in the military, Sgt Hill served as assistant to Veterinary Sergeant c 23/7/17. One of his duties was 'shoeing" presumably horses. On returning from the war, he joined the Agriculture Department and later the Land Board and Land Development Executive. He was responsible for planning much of the development of Upper Eyre Peninsula, the South East, and Kangaroo Island.
