O.B.E., M.B. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, France and England. Enlisting in July, 1915, and sailing in August, served in Egypt with No. 2 Australian General Hospital and 3rd A.L.H. and 3rd Field Ambulances. Crossing to France, became R.M.O. 9th Battn. and later joined 2nd A.F.Amb., remaining with it till 13th June, 1917, when appointed Registrar, No. 1 Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, serving until demobilisation. Promoted major, 13th June, 1917; lieutenant-colonel, 13th March, 1919. Awarded O.B.E. 3rd June, 1919, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Maryborough Grammar School.
