8.11.15, 2/Lt. 6th Btn.; sailed 29.1.16; to 59th Btn. in Egypt 21.3.16; Lieut. 1.6.16.
He was killed on 19th July 1916, at Fleurbaix, in his first engagement. When his Company Commander was seriously wounded he took charge and led his men over the parapet and steadily forward under very heavy machine gun and rifle fire. For this gallantry he was awarded the Military Cross.
