Book of Remembrance entry
D.S.O., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S., M.C.O.G. (Lond.) : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st March, 1916, and sailing on the 16th, was with 4th Australian Field Ambulance in Egypt from 22nd April, and crossing with it to France, was at Pozieres, Bullecourt, Messines, Ypres, Hebuterne and elsewhere until 24th May, 1918. Then transferring to No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Rouen, served until demobilisation. Promoted major, 7th April, 1917. Awarded D.S.O.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Lecturer in Clinical Gynaecology. Early education at Sydney High School. * "He was in charge of an advanced dressing station for five days, under heavy shell fire most of the time. He displayed the greatest ability and devotion to duty in organising the dressing and evacuation of a large number of the wounded, on several occasions, helping to bring them in."—London Gazette, 25th August, 1917.
