M.C., B.E. : Major, R.E., B.E.F., France and England. Enlisting in London 10th January, 1915, was commissioned 27th March from London University Officers Training Corps. Crossing to France, served with 153rd Field Coy. from 20th July, 1915, to 1st April, 1917, was instructor in Field Engineering in England from 5th May, 1917, to 5th April, 1918, and then returning to France with 422nd Field Coy. till 1st July, 1919. Promoted lieutenant, 1st November, 1915; captain, 15th February, 1917; major, 29th April, 1918. Awarded M.C. in 1916 and Mentioned in Despatches twice. Research Scholar, 1914. Early education at Auckland Grammar School, N.Z.
