Arts II and Law I I : Captain, 20th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and France. After being lieutenant, 25th Infantry (Sydney Scottish Rifles) A.M.F., was gazetted lieutenant 20th Battn. A.I.F. 5th May, 1915, and, sailing 26th June, landed at Gallipoli 22nd August, as second in command of B Coy. On 1st September was promoted captain and, after being for a short time second-in-command of A Coy., was O.C. B Coy. until the Evacuation. Then, after service in Sinai, crossed with battn. to France in March, fighting in Fleurbaix and Pozieres sectors. At bombardment of Bridoux salient, 5th and 6th May, his name was recommended for a decoration but this lapsed on death. Killed in Action, Bois Grenier, 14th June, 1916, and buried in Bois Grenier Cemetery. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Andrew''s College. "He is a fearless, gallant boy and I am proud to have him under my command . . . "—Brigadier-General W. Holmes.
