M.C., M.B. : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 16th April, 1915, and sailing 17th July, joined No. 2 Australian General Hospital, Ghezireh. Transferring to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, crossed to France and served until gassed at Pozieres in August, 1916, returning to Australia 18th October, 1917. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Fort St. High School. * "He worked continuously for 48 hours under very heavy fire, tending and dressing the wounded. He set a splendid example of coolness and courage throughout."— London Gazette, 26th January, 1917.
