Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., B.E.; A.M.I.E.Aust. : Lieutenant, 5th Pioneer Battn., 1st Field Coy., Engineers, and 4th Machine Gun Coy., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting in May, 1915, and sailing 6th September, was with 1st Field Coy. at Gallipoli in November and December. After the Evacuation transferred to 4th M.G. Coy. and on 24th March, 1916, to 5th Pioneer Battn., as second-lieutenant. Crossing to France in June, served at Fleurbaix, Somme, Bullecourt, Polygon Wood, Ypres, Villers-Bretonnuex and elsewhere till demobilisation, although slightly wounded at Westhoek 28th September, 1917, and near Villers- Bretonnuex, 21st May, 1918. Promoted lieutenant, 16th September, 1916. Awarded M.C. 25th August, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Townsville and Ipswich Grammar Schools.
