Eng. : Lieutenant, 5th Pioneer Battn., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 30th July, 1915, and sailing in March, 1916, as secondlieutenant 15th Reinforcements 2nd Battn., joined Pioneers on formation in Egypt. Crossing to France in June, fought at Armentieres and Somme till June, 1917. Appointed Instructor (Anti-Gas and Machine Gun) Officers School, Salisbury, in August. Rejoining battn. near Messines in December, served at Somme, Villers-Bretonneux and elsewhere until demobilisation. Promoted lieutenant, July, 1916. Member of S.U. Scouts. Early education at Sydney Grammar School and All Saints'' College, Bathurst. Later at St. Andrew''s.
