Econ. : Private, 30th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 10th January, 1916, and sailing 9th April, served with battn. at Fleurbaix and the Somme, where wounded 9th December and evacuated to hospital. Rejoining battn. on recovery, was attached to Brigade H.Q. for special work in Intelligence Section and served until demobilisation although gassed at Hamel, 24th April, 1918. Mentioned for work in the Field by O.C.'s 30th and 31st Battns. Early education at City of London School. Later at Teachers' College.
