Cowan, Darcy Rivers Warren

D.R.W. Cowan founded Bedford Industries at Panorama, Adelaide, in 1950 to offer work opportunities for sufferers of tuberculosis. This later became a sheltered workshop for people with mental or physical disabilities. He was also involved in the founding of both Kalyra Sanatorium & Estcourt House, 1947-57.
D.R.W. Cowan was outspoken and active in getting changes made to the management, teaching and examinations in medical coursework at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Adelaide

He was knighted in 1955 for his services in combating tuberculosis.
