Book of Remembrance entry
Arts I (e) : Staff-Sergeant, 56th Battn., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 5th May, 1916, and sailing with 8th Reinforcements, joined battn. on the Somme, 7th February, 1917, and served till wounded at Bullecourt in May and sent to Rouen Hospital. On recovery was attached to H.Q., London, from 25th June, 1917, until return in July, 1920, being engaged for a few months on special duties at Calais and other parts of France. Promoted sergeant, 21st May, 1918; staff-sergeant, 1st September, 1919. Early education at Mosman Public, Fort St. and Sydney High Schools.
