Book of Remembrance entry
D.S.O., M.B., Ch.M. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France and England; also A.N. and M.E.F., New Guinea. Enlisting 4th August, 1914, and sailing on 5th as Hon. Surgeon, R.A.N., transferred to A.A.M.C. (vice Captain B. C. A. Pockley, Killed in Action) and returned in February, 1915. Re-Enlisting and sailing with 5th Australian Field Ambulance 10th January, 1916, crossed from Egypt to France in March and on 14th was appointed to command 1st Australian Sanitary Section (Hygiene), remaining with it until June. Then transferred to 6th A.F.Amb., thence to A.I.F. H.Q., England, and later to No. 6 Australian Hospital, Cobham, being invalided to Australia in April, 1918. Promoted temporary major, 7th August, 1916, and major, 14th November. Awarded D.S.O. 4th June, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches twice. A.A.M.C. : Lieutenant-Colonel. President, Undergraduates'' Association. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College.
