Burke exhibited his photographic work in Australia, Europe, London and the United States of America, and was elected an associate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain in 1938 for a portfolio of male figure studies In 1953 he found Otto Holtermann's collection of Beaufoy Merlin's and Charles Bayliss's glass plates. He lectured prepared exhibitions and produced a TV seres for the ABC. From ADB entry
Book of Remembrance entry
B.Ec. : Sapper, 1st Australian Wireless Signal Squadron, Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force. Enlisting 19th February, 1917, and sailing 19th December, arrived at Unit H.Q., Baghdad, 29th March, 1918. Allotted to No. 9 Waggon Station, Kermanshah and Hamadan, N.W. Persia. Station moved on September 14th with Sweet''s Column to Zingan, later returning to Baghdad via Siah Dehan and the Kasvin Road, arriving 21st November. On demobilisation of the Squadron, transferred to D Troop which remained in Mesopotamia until n th November, 1919, owing to frontier operations in Kurdistan (Mosul area), returning in January, 1920. Edited Commonwealth Unit History for the various Australian units serving in Mesopotamia and Persia under the title With Horse and Morse (published by subscription). Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
