M.C., C. de G., M.B., Ch.M.; F.R.C.S. (Edin.), F.R.A.C.S., D.L.O. (Lond.) : Captain, R.A.F., Salonika and Egypt. Enlisting in London as second-lieutenant, 13th May, 1916, and training at Oxford, London and Beverley until 20th September, joined No. 47 Squadron at Salonika and served until invalided to Egypt 30th November, 1917. Transferred to No. 193 Training Squadron 12th December and H.Q. Training Wing 28th July, 1918, being granted leave to Australia 6th October. On expiry, joined No. 5 Flying School, Egypt, 25th February, 1919, returning to Australia in July. Promoted flying officer, 28th July, 1916; lieutenant, 1st June, 1917; captain, 1st April, 1918. Awarded M.C. 4th June, 1917, and C. de G. 1st June, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later one year in Arts.
