Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., B.A. : Major, 13th Battn. and A.F.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 6th August, 1915, and sailing 14th October as lieutenant in charge of n th Reinforcements, joined battn. in Egypt in March, 1916, and, crossing with it to France, was wounded at Mouquet Farm 31st August. Rejoining battn. near Messines in June, 1917, was again wounded on Ypres-Comines Canal, 28th February, 1918. Being unfit for general service, was made Adjutant A.F.C. Depot, Windsor, in June and of Training Wing, Tetbury, n th November. Appointed Staff Officer II A.F.C. H.Q., London, in January, 1919, serving till demobilisation. Promoted lieutenant, 7th April, 1916, and captain, 19th August; temporary major, 27th January, 1919. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Tudor House and The Armidale School. Later at St. Paul's College. * He led his company with great courage and determination. Later, although severely wounded, he continued at his post.—London Gazette, 14th November, 1916.
