D.S.O., M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, R.A.M.C., B.E.F., France. Enlisting and sailing in March, 1915, was gazetted lieutenant in London and later attached to 73rd Brigade R.F.A., crossing to France in June and serving till death. Promoted captain, 23rd March, 1916. Awarded D.S.O.* for services between Mametz Wood and Bazentin-le-Petit and Mentioned in Despatches. Killed in Action, the Somme, 10th September, 1916, and buried in Dantzig Alley British Cemetery, Mametz. Early education at the Sydney Grammar School. * During very heavy bombardment, he, on three occasions, helped to dig out men from blown-in dugouts. Shells were bursting round him, and it was mainly through his efforts that many buried men were rescued.—London Gazette, 26th September, 1916.
