Book of Remembrance entry
Arts II (e) : Company Sergeant-Major, 1st and 53rd Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Sailing 14th July, 1915, joined 1st Battn. 4th November, transferred to 53rd Battn. 14th February, 1916, and, crossing to France in June, was wounded at Fleurbaix 21st July and evacuated to different hospitals in England. Passing examination for lieutenant, rejoined unit at the end of June, 1917, and served in Somme and Ypres areas till death. Killed in Action, Polygon Wood, 26th September, 1917. Commemorated in the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Early education at South Grafton and Carr''s Creek Public Schools. Later at Teachers'' College.
