M.C., M.B., Ch.M.; D.P.H. (Melb.) : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., England and France. Enlisting 25th September, 1916, and sailing 9th November, served in A.I.F. depots in United Kingdom from January to March, 1917, and at Base Hospital, Rouen, till May. Was R.M.O. 46th Battn. from June to August and joined 12th Australian Field Ambulance in September, being R.M.O. 12th Artillery Brigade from October, 1917, to October, 1918, and with 4th A.F. Amb. from November, 1918, to March, 1919. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney High School. * When the regimental aid post was heavily shelled, a direct hit causing casualties amongst the staff, he succeeded, single-handed, in getting the wounded away, and attended to many cases in the area of the bombardment.—London Gazette, 21st September, 19x8.
