Book of Remembrance entry
Econ. II : Sergeant, 53rd Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 14th May, 1915, and sailing 14th July with 7th Reinforcements 1st Battn., took part in the long Desert March and joined battn. at Gallipoli, serving until the Evacuation. On return to Egypt attended Empire Officers' School, winning second place, and, crossing to France as sergeant in 53rd Battn., served in Fleurbaix sector till death. Killed in Action, Fleurbaix, 19th July, 1916, only three weeks after arrival in France. Commemorated in Fromelles Memorial. Early education at Darlington and Cleveland St. Superior Public Schools. Later at Teachers' College.
