Benjafield appeared as a medical witness at the legal proceedings in 1943 where artist William Dobell was being sued for his Archibald prize winning portrait of Joshua Smith.

Book of Remembrance entry

M.B., Ch.M. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and England. Enlisting n th October, 1914, and sailing 21st November with No. 2 Australian General Hospital, served with it till 3rd March, 1915, when transferred to Citadel Hospital, Cairo. In Gallipoli was S.M.O. troopship Clan MacGillivray for the Landing and after short service at No. 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, R.M.O. 6th Battn. till 20th June, of 3rd Artillery Brigade in July and August and surgeon on hospital ship Gascon from September to December. Then served at No. 2 A.G.H. till March, 1916, when appointed O.C. Convalescent Depot, Ras-el-Tin. In November transferred to No. 3 Convalescent Depot and in December to No. 1, remaining there till July, 1917, and returning 20th September. Promoted major, 12th March, 1916. Early education at The Friends'' High School, Hobart.
