M.C., B.Sc. : Lieutenant (Acting Captain), Z Special Coy., R.E., B.E.F., France. Mobilised as A.M.F. Officer in N.S.W., 1915-16. Then, enlisting in London, February, 1917, with R.E. (Poison Gas Brigade), served as lieutenant from 4th May to the Armistice, being attached for the last 2 months to American 1st Army and returning to Australia on demobilisation. Gassed at Loos 13th May, 1918. Awarded M.C. and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Grafton High School. Later at St. John''s College.
