Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, 30th Battn., A.I.F., Egypt and France. Enlisting 16th August, 1914, and sailing with battn. 9th November, 1915, as lieutenant after service at Liverpool Camp and training at Duntroon, served on Suez Canal Defences and, crossing to France, at Bois Grenier, Fleurbaix and the Somme. Severely wounded at Fleurbaix and Sunray Trench, and invalided to Australia, arriving 31st August, 1917. Promoted captain in February, 1916. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Hon. Lecturer in Medicine and Therapeutics. Tutor in Anaesthetics. Early education at Forbes Public School. Later one year in Arts, two in Science, and, after graduation in Medicine, three in Law to 1938. * He was wounded in the advance, but, refusing to be attended to, went forward with his men, and was seen later filling sandbags himself. Later he withdrew, but, on hearing that an officer was required to keep work going at the front, he immediately went forward again.— London Gazette, 19th September, 1916.
